Organisers of a planned monster garage sale in Arrowtown will now hold the event in spring, in light of the catastrophic events in the North Island.
The fundraiser for the Arrowtown volunteer fire brigade, to help raise the shortfall for a new, $150,000 emergency response vehicle, and replace some medical equipment, was to be held on March 12.
Being organised in conjunction with New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty, Southern Lakes sales GM Jo Eddington says the impact of Cyclone Gabrielle on, in particular, Hawke’s Bay and Napier, gave them pause tflooo consider the timing.
With the local community firmly focused on supporting those in the North Island, which included a community drive last Saturday to collect goods for the Hawke’s Bay community, devastated by flooding, they didn’t feel it was appropriate go ahead with the Great Arrowtown Garage Sale right now, but are committed to holding it later in the year.
