Queenstown Chess Club made its first move into the competitive arena at the recent South Island Rapid Chess Championships in Oamaru.

Those competing, who all played six games, were, back row, from left, Radek Moravek, James Dawson, Jay Sagar and, front row, Inga Zuzeviciute, Jordan Elley and support crew Camille Anne Dawson.

Moravek, who finished 18th out of 58 competitors, was best-placed local, however the players all came away with a win.

The club, formed at the start of the year, meets each Tuesday, 7pm-9pm, at The Crown Pub, with both novice and experienced players welcome.
