Winners, grinners: Camilla Parker Bowles' Maddy Dowmna, left, Calumn Pringle and Elliot Grogan

The Camilla Parker Bowles bowls team has prevailed in a six-week social tournament organised by the Queenstown Bowling Club, despite one of its members suffering a mountain bike accident before this week’s final round.

Calum Pringle separated the AC joint in his left shoulder, but thankfully he’s right-handed.

Twenty-eight teams of three contested the ‘Bowls 3 Five’ event, in which teams played five ends each week.

Pringle, whose teammates were Maddy Dowman and Elliot Grogan, says ‘‘the winning difference for us was commitment, I think’’.

‘‘We took it in turns to carry the team — each of us had an off-week, and one of us would come through in the end.’’

He says Dowman hadn’t played before and he and Grogan had only had two seasons’ and one season’s experience, respectively.

The runner-up team was Parcell Contracting 1, and High Rollers finished third.
