A renowned Australian string quartet’s performing stunning music alongside powerful spoken words at a unique concert in Arrowtown on Saturday.

The Sydney Art Quartet, a chamber music institution being brought across the Tasman for the Auckland Writers Festival, has collaborated with celebrated painters, performing artists, cinematographers, scent makers and scientists since its inception in 2015.

Promoting the local concert, which Arrowtown Creative Arts Society’s (ACAS) co-hosting with the writers festival, is Queenstowner Julian Knights, who was the quartet’s board chair for three years.

He describes them as “absolutely first-class musicians, brimming with fresh approaches”.

The narrator is Kiwi actor, writer and director Kip Chapman, whose credits include The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Top of the Lake.

The concert runs from 6pm, on August 27, at the Arrowtown Athenaeum Hall, following canapes at 5.30.

Tickets $60, $50 for ACAS members, from eventfinda and Arrowtown Pharmacy.
