Queenstown’s long-running arts and crafts market has a new, hugely-shortened name.

The weekly Creative Queenstown Arts & Crafts Market is now simply ‘Queenstown Market’ or, to give it its full name, ‘Queenstown Market on the Lakefront’.

The rebrand’s accompanied by a new logo, new-look website — queenstownmarket.nz — and updated social media pages.

The last name, manager Brigit van der Kaag says, was a bit of a mouthful.

The new name also recognises the market’s lakefront location.

‘‘When I took on this job just before Christmas last year, I just thought the big thing about this market is it’s in the best spot in Queenstown, it’s a beautiful location.’’

It currently adjoins the Queenstown Bay lake wall and steps, but will return to Earnslaw Park — still by the lakefront — when the Beach Street upgrade’s completed.

Van der Kaag says it’s also about 10 years since its branding was last refreshed and, having gone through Covid, now’s a good time.

‘‘It gives everyone a lift.’’

There are a maximum 50 arts and crafts stalls, mostly operated by locals, at any one time, she explains — ‘‘most people, once they get in here, keep coming back’’.

‘‘I just try and make sure we don’t have too many of the same product, but everything here, because they make it themselves, it’s all individual anyway.’’

Stall-holders’ rents go back into the local arts community, and also pay for musos who play each market day.

The market’s run by the local community arts council, known as Creative Queenstown.

‘‘I’ve got a great committee behind me,’’ Van der Kaag says.

Weather permitting, the market runs every Saturday of the year, 9am till 4pm, along with nine Friday markets around long weekends and school holidays.
