The real estate agency marketing the first residential product at Queenstown’s huge Lakeview development reports it’s very encouraged by the level of interest.

Lakeview Te Taumata is the $1 billion masterplanned community which Queenstown’s council is delivering infrastructure for at its former campground at the end of Man St which enjoys a ‘town centre’ zoning.

Melbourne-based Ninety Four Feet and Auckland-based Centuria and Britomart Hospitality Group comprise the consortium that’ll build a range of residential and visitor accommodation as well as food and beverage, retail, health and wellness and other amenities.

More than half the 3.3-hectare area is also being dedicated to open space.

New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty (NZSIR) has been seeking expressions of interest on 94 apartments in the first two tower buildings in a residential precinct called ‘Roto’.

Priced from $750,000, they range from studios and one- to three-bedroom apartments to sub-penthouses and penthouses.

NZSIR managing director Mark Harris, who says they’re ‘‘extremely proud’’ to be representing what he describes as ‘‘Queenstown’s first truly world-class masterplanned community right in the CBD’’, says there’s already been ‘‘huge interest’’ in Lakeview.

‘‘It offers something for everyone in terms of apartment living configurations and price points.’’

Local-based NZSIR projects and development manager Myles Green adds: ‘‘We already have registrations of interest across all apartment typologies, which to us really indicates the developer has got the mix right.’’

That interest’s coming, he says, locally, from around New Zealand, across the Tasman and from global expats.

‘‘The low-maintenance, high-amenity living that is offered by premium apartments appeals to a wide demographic.’’

Lakeview’s being formally launched on the market early in the new year.

The council’s due to finish infrastructure development in March, with construction due to start in winter.
