The lion’s share of government funding for the Queenstown-Lakes to progress active travel options is being targeted at one Queenstown project.

Transport Minister Michael Wood announced $11.8 million is coming to the district from the government’s ‘transport choices’ programme, of which $10.3m is going to be spent progressing improvements on the Arthurs Point to Queenstown route.

The remaining $1.5m’s for scoping options to improve active travel links in Wānaka.

The Arthurs Point-Queenstown route was first flagged for improvements by the Way To Go group in December, 2020 — NZTA says further detail’s expected to be provided on the project early next year.
