A WorkSafe spokesperson says they can’t comment on a fatal incident at Queenstown’s Jack’s Point on Tuesday while its investigation is underway.

Police, ambulance and volunteer firefighters were called to a ‘‘workplace incident’’ at Homestead Bay Road just before 3pm — later that night, police confirmed one person died.

Next of kin have been notified, but no further information was available by Mountain Scene deadline yesterday.

The incident occurred about 150 metres behind Jack Tewa Park and the Jack’s Point playground — heavy machinery, including diggers, could be seen at the site.

The cause and circumstances of the death are under investigation; WorkSafe has 12 months for that process to be completed.
