Coronet Peak is going to the dogs tomorrow.

For the 49th year, Coronet’s hosting the Torpedo7 Dog Derby, after which pups and their pawrents will head to Arthurs Point’s Cargo Gantley’s Pub for the ever-popular dog barking competition.

This year there’ll be four dog derby divisions — ‘country’, which is only for working farm dogs, ‘town’, for men and women, aged over 14, with any type of dog, and a separate section for kids aged between 7 and 13.

After a ride up the Coronet Express chairlift, farmies will race down Duncan’s Dance and Pro-Am — before they finish, handlers will have to whistle their dogs back up the hill and around a gate before calling them back to the finish-line.

Meanwhile, all other dogs and their humans will take a ride on the Meadows Express, and race down the Lower M1.

There’s $1000 in cash up for grabs for place-getters in the country division, with other prizes available from Farmlands, BlackHawk, WashBar Paw Balm and 4Legged Kitchen, and special prizes for ‘most dramatic finish’, ‘most enthusiastic tail wag’ and best outfit.

Registrations open at 10am tomorrow, with racing from 12.30pm, followed by the dog barking competition at Cargo Gantley’s from 3.30pm.
