Dining for a cure

NEW Zealand’s breast cancer research charity’s launching its inaugural Dine for a Cure fundraiser, featuring eminent Kiwi chef Matt Lambert, in Queenstown on May 4.

For the past 10 years, Breast Cancer Cure’s run Fashion for a Cure fundraisers across NZ, including Queenstown, however it’s changed tack to try to entice more men along.

Charity CEO Sonja de Mari says it’s not widely talked about but men are also affected by breast cancer, whether it’s their partner, mum or another female relative, and can them selves be diagnosed with the disease, and die from it.

The fundraiser, at Vingard (formerly Mount Soho Vineyard), near Arrowtown, features a sumptuous meal during which Lambert will chart his life story — including founding and running New York’s Michelin-starred restaurant, The Musket Room — over each of the three courses
he’ll create.

He’s also executive chef of The Lodge Bar Group which opened its first NZ venue in Queenstown.

Having him ‘‘unleash his talent, passion and inspiration on our guests at this upcoming event will be beyond memorable’’, De Mari says.

The other guest will be WORLD designer/director Benny Castles, who’ll present an immersive perfume experience.

The MC’s broadcaster Wendy Petrie, ‘‘one-man-band’’ Josh Leys will provide the music, and there’ll be live and silent auctions, too.

A Breast Cancer Cure researcher will also explain the latest developments in research and what the fundraising will go towards.

De Mari says its two-year research projects cost about $250,000.

‘‘Making a dent in that figure from the fundraising efforts generated from the Dine for a Cure event would make a significant impact on our ability to fund breast cancer research projects in 2023.’’
