Queenstown mountain biker Jess Blewitt may have the home town advantage this weekend.

Blewitt, 20, will be looking to defend her national downhill title at Coronet Peak, during the 2023 Torpedo7 Mountain Bike National Champs.

Blewitt took the crown in 2020, in Dunedin, and retained it in ’21 and ’22, in Christchurch.

The female downhill, happening during downhill events on Sunday, also includes fellow Queenstown elite rider Kalani Muirhead and Rotorua’s Jenna Hastings — who was a junior last year when she posted the second-fastest time of the day, behind Blewitt.

More than 100 riders have also entered in tomorrow’s cross country and short-course cross country events, including pro Anton Cooper — forced out of last year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham after catching Covid — who’ll be defending his national title.
