‘Ciao’ to the CBD

Remarkables Park’s Giovi has taken over another local Italian restaurant, Steamer Wharf-based Farelli’s.

Local Italian couple, chef Giovanna Faroni and Mauro Balzarini, who opened Giovi just before 2020’s Covid lockdown, are renaming their new venue Farelli’s by Giovi, and, following a refurb, are reopening it this coming Monday.

Taking over an existing Italian restaurant is easier, as it’s already set up for pizza and pasta, they explain, however they’ll do most of their prep at their Frankton outlet.

‘‘Really, Italian food is not too sophisticated, it’s just good ingredients, simple recipes but good taste, and that’s what’s going to be here as well,’’ Balzarini says.

Faroni says Giovi’s been the only local Italian restaurant to make its own pasta, which they also sell raw for customers to cook at home.

She also imports wine from her family vineyard in Italy.

Balzarini, who’s considering offering three-month cooking scholarships in Italy for tourism school graduates, says they’ll initially open for dinner service only, at Steamer Wharf, five nights a week.
