On location: Sir Peter Jackson at Queenstown Airport
Dotting down: Sir Peter Jackson's private jet
Top Kiwi film director Sir Peter Jackson touched down in Queenstown yesterday (Thursday) – sparking rumours that scenes for his next screen blockbuster will be filmed here.
Famous for his Lord of the Rings trilogy, Jackson is currently shooting a two-part prequel, The Hobbit, in the North Island.
After emerging from his new Global Express private jet, Jackson and up to 15-strong entourage headed for a hangar at local chopper company Heliworks.
A witness to the Oscar-winning director’s arrival says he and his crew seemed to be here to film.
“There were about 13 to 15 of them and they had a huge amount of gear and they all took off in choppers,” the source says.
Movie mogul Jackson owns a rural property between Queenstown and Arthurs Point.
His wife Fran Walsh also owns a section near Closeburn – scene of a massive blaze last October thought to have been sparked by a tree falling on a powerline.
