Local photographer Niels Koervers’ wide-angle lens captures the dramatic impact of Queenstown’s big freeze on the Shotover River.

The photo was taken on Monday opposite jetboat company Shotover Jet’s put-in point, and shows the Oxenbridge Tunnel in the background.

“It was pretty treacherous, very slippery but just beautiful,” Dutch-born Koervers says.

Large chunks of floating ice kept Shotover Jet off the water for a near-record nine-and-a-half days Shotover Jet boss Clark Scott says operations resumed on Monday afternoon, but early morning trips were still being affected mid-week.
