The Queenstown men’s basketball team is on a 23-game winning streak dating back to last season.
Their unbeaten run includes the Wanaka basketball competition final against Cromwell last August and five matches two weekends ago at the Eastern Southland Basketball Tournament in Gore.
The team has four matches to go this season – assuming it makes the Wanaka competition final again next month.
Player Evan McWhirter says the team is more focused on getting to the final and winning it than preserving their unbeaten run.
“That’s a goal but the idea is to win the last game – because it’s the final. No one will really remember a winning streak except for us.”
McWhirter says part of the team’s winning formula is the players are committed to turning up each week and going hard.
“They’re all really passionate about playing basketball and it’s showing in the results.”
