The sleepy Dorset village of Ewedown is re-awakened when previous inhabitant Tamara Drewe (Gemma Arterton) returns to sell her late mother’s house. Quite literally a changed person (thanks to a nose job), ex-local Tamara is now a glamorous and successful journalist.
This is a Vicar of Dibley style rural comedy that gently flows along for some really pleasurable viewing.
Tamara’s intention is to sell up and get out of the ‘’dump’’ as soon as possible but, as she reminisces the past, she finds the inspiration to write about her life. A real femme fatale, she soon hooks up with rock band drummer and heartthrob Ben (Dominic Cooper) who breaks the silence of the village with fast cars and a rather badly behaved dog. Also lurking is farmhand and ex-flame Andy as well as serial philanderer Nicholas Hardiman (Roger Allam) who also wants a piece of the action!
From the Director of “The Queen” (Stephen Frears) this is a tale of middle-class foibles, egos and lust, but although Tamara is the ultimate modern girl her story of love and confusion is timeless.
In the midst of it all are a pair of mischievous teenage girls, Jody and Casey. Bored and looking for adventure, they leave a path of destruction wherever they go!
Don’t miss: Tamsin Grieg (Black Books) as Nick’s long-suffering wife. She pops up everywhere busying herself with household chores, helping hubby, baking and even mending tractors! The Women’s Institute would be proud!
