A QUEENSTOWN man faces a serious assault charge after allegedly strangling his girlfriend.
The 21-year-old was arrested after an incident at a Sunshine Bay address in the early hours of Sunday morning.
It’s understood he had been drinking before the alleged attack, which happened at about 3am.
The young woman was badly injured and rushed to Dunedin Hospital where she had an MRI scan to check for possible brain damage.
She has since been discharged.
The man has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Sergeant Mike Gill from Queenstown police says: “It is alleged the male has strangled his girlfriend resulting in her requiring medical attention.
“He was arrested later the same day.”
The man was remanded in custody at Queenstown District Court on Monday and is due to appear in Invercargill District Court today.
