World champ snowboarder coming to Queenstown slopes

The world’s top female snowboarder is coming to Queenstown.

American Jamie Anderson, 20, is headlining the Billabong Slopestyle event at Snow Park from August 4-6.

The TTR world women’s champion won her first gold medal at the Winter X Games in the slopestyle event, at the age of 16.

In the process she tipped out Shaun White as the youngest medallist in Winter X games history.

Anderson, from South Lake Tahoe, has won almost 20 worldwide competitions and has her eyes firmly set on the 2014 Winter Olympics.

“I am so excited to be in beautiful New Zealand,” she says.

“I will be competing in the Billabong “Bro Down” event, the New Zealand Open and then I’ll have some free time to enjoy the country, maybe go to the coast, skydive, heli-board – I want to do it all.”

Also competing at the Slopestyle are Antti Autti, Robbie Walker, 2010 open men’s winner Clint Allan, local Jake Koia, Sebastien Toutant and Zach Stone.

Prizemoney of $34,000 is up for grabs.
