Winter Games alpine ski race winners have hit downtown Queenstown for the medal ceremony.
American Warner Nickerson took out the men’s alpine giant slalom at the Winter Games up Coronet Peak today (Monday).
Nickerson clocked a time of one minute and 46.2 seconds for his two runs, to edge Austria’s Marcel Mathis into second. Mathis buzzed the course in 1.46.29.
America’s Colby Granstrom clocked 1.46.84 for third.
The event attracted 102 ski racers from all over the world, including Queenstowner Tim Café.
Fellow Kiwis Ben Griffin and Adam Barwood survived the first cut to make the final 60. Griffin finished 24th in a time of 1.47.64. Barwood came 39th in 1.49.71.
The winners accepted their medals at the first downtown ceremony in Queenstown on the Village Green at 5.30pm.
