Amateur golfers have the chance to win a car today while raising funds for a local primary school.

The inaugural Remarkables Primary School charity golf tournament tees off at Jack’s Point Golf Course from noon.

The ‘shotgun’ start follows a formal welcome by the school’s kapa haka group at 11.30am.

There are 116 player spots. The first to get a hole-in-one wins a a brand new Ford Escape Trend worth over $35000 and sponsored by MTF Finance Central Otago.

Remarkables’ community contact Tracey Pedersen, on Monday, said there were about nine spots left.

“This is the first time Jack’s Point has hosted a charity tournament, so we feel very privileged to have that honour.

“We have 18 amazing hole sponsors as well as lots of other businesses that have provided prizes and auction items.”

The tournament, organised by the Remarkables Parents Association, is an adults-only event, played in an Ambrose format. There’ll also be competitions at the driving range for players and the public.

Pedersen says they hope to raise about $30,000.

The money raised will be used to maintain and buy new educational resources, and expand outdoor play and eating areas at the school, which has more than 600 pupils.
