Wakatipu cuts it fine


Wakatipu beat Central Queens­town with one ball to spare in a Mountain Scene Twenty/20 cricket league top-of-the-table clash last Sunday. 

Central Queenstown managed a creditable 134, batting first. 

Central Queenstown player Olly O’Leary top-scored with 38 and Wakatipu’s Luke Daglish took 3 for 22. 

Wakatipu scraped home on the back of Tom Merrell’s 31 and captain Brad Robertson’s 34 not out. 

Defending champions Arrow­town remain unbeaten after a convincing win over Fernhill/Sunshine Bay. 

Arrowtown, carried by Hayden Finch’s 55 not out, rustled up 139, then restricted their opponents to just 79. 

In the other two fourth-round games last weekend, Jack’s Point and Lake Hayes Estate notched their first wins this season. 

Jack’s Point rolled Frankton for 93, Will Stead taking four wickets for 11 runs. 

Jack’s Point struggled against good bowling by Frankton but reached their target in the last over, with Ants Webb scoring 27. 

Lake Hayes Estate managed a last-ball victory over Kelvin Heights, who remain win-less. 

Kelvin Heights, batting first, reached 105, with Lake Hayes Estate’s AJ van der Voorn taking four wickets for 11. 

Lake Hayes scraped home thanks to Andrew Ross’ 54 not out.
