World class BMX dirt riders will showcase their skills at the second Queenstown Red Bull Roast It next month.

The gravity-defying event – held at Gorge Road Jump Park on March 2 – sees a field of top international riders and talented amateurs compete for more than $8000.

American riders Anthony Napolitan, Mike ‘Hucker’ Clark and Brandon Dosch, along with UK rider Kye Forte are again confirmed for 2013 after entertaining crowds at the inaugural event last year.

New Zealand will also be represented by a strong contingent of riders including Jaden Leeming, Jed Mildon, Paul Langlands and the Bolter twins.

Red Bull sponsored Leeming, 19, from Browns Bay, Auckland, says: “It’s just so cool to have riders this big in New Zealand, to ride with them down at Gorge Road is going to be amazing.

“I’m really looking forward to the challenge.”

Gorge Road has been lovingly hand-built by a team of Queenstown riders over the past six year and is now one of the premier and most iconic parks in the world.

Its unique layout maximises width, creating opportunities for new lines and tricks, pushing the progression of BMX to new levels, say riders.

Competition on the day will see 10-man heats starting at 12pm. The top five from each heat will progress forward.

Competitors will judge the heat before them, voting the best riders into the 20-man, hour-long super final.

Best rider will win $5000, while ‘best line’ and ‘best trick’ will take $1500 each, with spot prizes also on offer.

New Zealand rider George Bolter took out ‘best line’ with Brandon Dosch last year.

“Red Bull Roast It is awesome,” Bolter says. “The riding levels are really high and the atmosphere is chilled. I can’t wait to try out some new combinations.”
