A veteran ski racer has knocked off fellow American superstars to win Queenstown’s Australia New Zealand Cup giant slalom.
Warner Nickerson, 29, beat US team members Ted Ligety and Bode Miller in Monday’s Men’s Continental Cup at Coronet Peak on Monday.
“Bode didn’t care and Ted’s the best giant slalom ski racer in the world, but he switched equipment and was trying to get used to that. I just had a good day,” Nickerson (pictured) says.
Nickerson was in the US squad but goes it alone in fun-loving “Team No Team” with star Swede Jon Olsson.
Canada dominated Tuesday’s slalom races, taking out all but silver in the women’s. Kiwi Sarah Jarvis finished fourth.
