Testing their nerve on the downhill run

Downhill mountain bikers put their skills and nerve to the test as they raced in Queenstown last weekend. Almost 70 competitors took part in the fourth round of the Downhill Southern Series at Skyline’s Bob’s Peak trails on Sunday. Queenstown-based Reon Boe was the quickest down the course, recording a time of three minutes and nine seconds from top to bottom. Tom Hey, Queenstown Mountain Bike Club president, says: “Reon is really fast – right up there every race. “The riders seemed really happy with the course we laid out, which had a new off-camber section.” Harriet Latchem won the women’s race, Matt Weir the masters, and Raphael Kammelian-Cutler the juniors.
