Ten-year-old Queenstown gymnast Ana-Carolina Lozano has vaulted into the big-time.
The Remarkables Primary School student has been selected for the Southland team who’ll compete in the New Zealand National GymSports Championships in Auckland in October.
Coached by Gio Santos, she’s been winning South Island-wide events this year.
Her mother, Crys Lozano, who brought her family from Brazil, says “Carol has been working so hard, training at the minimum 13 hours each week, really pushing herself to achieve this.
“She has been a star on the vault this competition season.”
Ana-Carolina will compete at the nationals on the beam, uneven parallel bars, floor and vault.
She’s one of the few Southland representatives produced by the Queenstown Gymnastics Club since it was formed in 1997.
Earlier representatives include Kate Wilkinson and Sarah Walker in 2002 and Kate, Sarah and Crystal Smith in 2003.
