Storm boys have fun in sun but no glory

Great trip to Raro – pity about the sevens tournament.

These sun-kissed Arrowtown members of the Southern Storm team (back row from left) manager Nick Lynch, Simon Williams, Daniel Dodds, Mike Evans, Dan Iosefo and (front from left) Aidan Winter, Daniel Eyles, Todd Adolph and Iain Banks returned from the Cook Islands tournament last Wednesday, having won one of three games.

Team member Drew Carmody says they lost their first match 15-0 to a side containing Super 14 players from the Crusaders.

They won their second game 20-12 before being knocked out of the tournament with a narrow 14-12 loss. It couldn’t be blamed on a lack of time to acclimatise – the team arrived almost a week before the tournament kicked off. “It was a great trip.

We had six days to get ready,” Carmody says. The team fundraised about $30,000 for the 10-day trip. Rarotonga-based Waimeha Rebels won overall.
