Southern Stampede forward Brett Speirs runs away with the puck during a national ice hockey league game at Queenstown Ice Arena last weekend.
The Queenstown team broke a five-game losing streak on Saturday night, beating West Auckland Admirals 5-3 following a 7-1 pounding by the North Island side the day before.
“We changed up the line combinations and moved the boys around to try something new,” Stampede’s Bert Haines says.
“I think the boys just brought a little more focus and a lot more heart to the game and we saw the results from it.”
Stampede take on Canterbury Red Devils in another double-header in Christchurch this weekend.
After last Saturday’s win, Haines says he’s looking forward to tackling the Canterbury rivals, who beat the local side in two consecutive games last month.
