Sprawling lodge reopens for skiers

Queenstown’s Reavers Lodge has reopened as part of a hosted ski holiday package.

NZ Snow Ltd bought the former 94-room workers’ accommodation, off Hamilton Road, to reproduce the product offering of its Australian parent, Oz Snow Adventures Pty Ltd.

The lodge, which has been completely refitted, includes a ski shop, its own transport for airport and skifield shuttles and an in-house hosting programme.

Tane Evans, NZ Snow’s general manager, says the focus is on growing ski tourism into Queenstown from Australia and the rest of New Zealand, as well as outbound business to the resort village of Habuka in the Japanese North Alps.

“We’re the only company doing integrated hosted packages,” says Evans, who was formerly Ngai Tahu Tourism’s southern region sales manager.

NZ Snow will offer non-ski packages over the rest of the year.

The company is owned by Sydney’s Matt Goodall, who got Overseas Investment Office approval in March to buy Reavers Lodge for $4.7 million plus GST.
