Queenstown snowboarder Duncan Campbell (right) has returned from a golden American winter.
Duncan, 13, won gold and silver medals in regional boarder-cross races at Crested Butte, south of Aspen.
His results were so good he got an invite to the US nationals but had to pass as he was due to return to Queenstown.
Duncan did manage to take part in the US Burton Open Junior Jam at Stratton Mountain, Vermont – where he was the only Kiwi in the juniors.
Proud mother Lynn Campbell says it’s not a bad effort for his first season overseas.
“It was a biggie – he did pretty well.”
Since returning, Duncan has started a part-time job and is saving furiously to fund a similar overseas trip next year.
