Queenstown ski racer Alice Robinson was named ‘alpine ski racer of the year’ at the Snow Sports NZ Annual Awards, presented at Coronet Peak last Saturday night.

Proving she’s back on top form, Robinson, 21, had a string of top-10 finishes at world cup and world championship events this year, including a strong showing on her home hill during the recent Winter Games NZ.

Fellow Queenstowner Ruby Star Andrews, 18, won the tightly-contested award for ‘breakthrough season’ — her third placing at the Mammoth Slopestyle World Cup, during her first-ever World Cup season, sealed the deal for her.

Meantime, Wānaka snowboarder Zoi Sadowski-Synnott was named ‘snowboarder of the year’ and ‘Snow Sports NZ overall athlete of the year’.

‘Freeride athlete of the year’ went to Finn Bilous, ‘freeskier of the year’ was awarded to Luca Harrington, both of Wānaka, and Dunedin’s Adam Hall won ‘adaptive athlete of the year’.

‘Instructor of the year’ went to Rebecca Matthew and ‘coach of the year’ was award ed to Wānaka’s Hamish McDougall — Ruby’s lead coach — for freeski.
