Shock result on opening day

It proved an exciting start to the season last Saturday with High School 1 pulling off a huge upset by beating defending Premier champions Altitude.

High School played out of their skins and by half time had opened up a 12 point lead.

But Altitude showed their class and came back strongly to close the gap. It all came down to a nail-biting finish with High School finally taking the honours 50-45.

While most teams are still ironing out kinks, some sides came out firing.

Last year’s runners-up GRC (formerly Cutting Edge 1) continued their pre-season form and put together a commanding full-court performance to beat Famous Kelly’s 56-21.

Kelly’s has had to rework their lineup after the news that goal shoot Leah Hirst is out for the season due to injury.

GRC, Harcourts and ABL also posted big wins and look set to be strong contenders.

It was a clean sweep for the Wakatipu High teams who won all four Senior A games.

Ones to watch next Saturday will be Harcourts vs GRC and Chico’s/ABL vs High School 1.
