New York Yacht Club’s Riley Dean’s on his foils during the recent South Island  International Moth champs held over three days on Lake Whakatipu.

On the first day, yachties reached phenomenal speeds of 55 to 60kmh.

The winner, in a field of 12 boats, was Aucklander Mike Bullot, followed by Mattias Coutts, the son of America’s Cup legend Sir Russell Coutts.

America’s Cup-winning skipper, Kiwi Peter Burling, didn’t get a chance to get on the water, but did provide coaching tips and pointers to the competitors.
