A lucky young Kingston kid is bringing in the match ball for Queenstown’s Super 15 pre-season game – by chopper.

Excitement has been building in Queenstown ahead of today’s fixture between the Blues and local Highlanders – but it’ll be at fever pitch for Kingston eight-year old Quinn Abernethy.

The youngster won the right to fly in with Kiwi rugby stars Justin Marshall and Colin Slade to kick-off the match at the downtown Recreation Ground.

Quinn, who has invited sister Jamie, 15, to tag along, is expected to dot down about 5.20pm before the game’s scheduled kick-off 10 minutes later.

The Highlanders have spent the week on a family training trip in Wanaka, over the hill, introducing new Highlanders like Ma’a Nonu and Tony Woodcock to the region.

The star-stacked Blues side includes Rugby World Cup hero Piri Weepu, whilst All Black winger Hosea Gear is captain for the Highlanders.
