Things just keep on getting better for Queenstown rowing teens Sarah Foley (left) and Veronica Rotman.
Pictured relaxing after winning the women’s novice double sculls race on Southland’s Oreti River last Sunday, the pair recently qualified first overall in the South Island champs in Twizel.
Wakatipu Rowing Club captain Nick Bailey says the duo powered home after an “epic tussle” with the favoured Invercargill crew during last Sunday’s meet. They joined fellow Wakatipu High team mates Ariana Horsely, Clem Maxwell and cox
Laura Foley to take the women’s novice coxed quad title.
The novice men’s quad of Andrew Benington, Micheal Eden, Tom Nesbit and Angus Shaw also won their race by four boat lengths.
Bailey: “In days past, we used to travel down [to the Invercargill champs] knowing that the Southland rowers were the crews to beat – all that has changed now. These guys are certainly doing the community and themselves proud.”
