A Queenstown boxer beaten by New Zealand’s welterweight champ says he’ll be ready for a potential rematch in three weeks’ time.
Martin ‘Machine’ Mech, originally from the Czech Republic, lost to reigning No. 1 Bowen Morgan at the Otago Boxing Champs in Dunedin last Saturday.
Mech’s corner threw in the towel halfway through the third and final round after Morgan wobbled Mech with a stinging punch. “I was quite disappointed. Next time I’ll be ready,” Mech says.
The pair could face off again at the Golden Gloves event in Gore in three weeks.
Mech’s Queenstown trainer Darryl Giddens says if the referee had to stop the fight for a head blow Mech would have faced a one-month stand-down and missed the Golden Gloves.
