Queenstown’s young Remarkable Runners reached new heights at this year’s South Island Colgate Games.
Half of the 22 junior athletes representing their local club took home medals at the annual event in Dunedin earlier this month
The youngsters, aged seven-12, competed fiercely in different grade levels, as hundreds of other competitors gathered for the event.
Team member Ollie Kirk scooped five medals on the day, coming first in the 200m race, second in the 100m race and third in the long jump, discus and shotput events.
Theo Matulino struck gold in the 100m, 60m, and long jump events, coming second in the shotput. He was also part of the relay squad, which finished the race in second place.
As was Luca Kirk, who won silver medals in three different races and came third in the long jump event.
Team manager Kylie Burnell says: “Our kids performed amazingly well for such a small club and even though not all kids were medal winners, they were well up in their fields and we are so proud of them.
“Overall a terrific learning experience and it has given them a taste for more.”
The club’s been up and running for more than 30 years.
