The Kelvin Heights Ducks have won their top-of-the-table clash over Frankton in the Mountain Scene Twenty/20 cricket league.
Kelvin Heights won their final round-robin game by 40 runs after racking up 141 at the Queenstown Events Centre last Friday.
The Ducks – the competition’s only unbeaten team – will play fourth-placed Central Queenstown Pelicans in one semi-final on Sunday.
Remarkably, the Ducks won only one game last season – and that was by default.
Frankton will play third-on-the-table Arrowtown – defending champions for the past two seasons – in the other semi-final.
Both games will be at the Events Centre at 11am.
The final will be played at 3pm on the same day.
Jack’s Point, Fernhill/Sunshine Bay, Wakatipu and Lake Hayes Estate finished the round robin fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
Lake Hayes Estate had their first win of the season last Friday.
Jack’s Point, batting first, mustered a healthy 189 but the Lake Hayes Estate Rabbits, with Andrew Ross scoring 116 not out, ran down the total for the loss of only two wickets, with four balls to spare.
