Queenstown’s ice hockey team lost another shootout to rivals Canterbury after a dramatic comeback from the champions.
Southern Stampede were 8-4 up going into the third period at Queenstown Ice Arena on Saturday night – and dominating the repeat of last year’s contentious final won by the Red Devils.
But four unanswered goals in a chaotic first five minutes for the Devils brought the game level.
The remainder of the period and overtime was a war of attrition before Devils again took the shootout with Chris Eaden scoring the winning goal – although this time not with a spin-o-rama move.
Canterbury also won Sunday night’s fixture of the double-header, scoring in overtime to win 6-5. Stampede earn two points from the games, as they went to overtime.
