Queenstowners battling for top snow sports awards

A raft of snow-loving Queenstowners are in line for big sports gongs this weekend.

Local names are littered through the list of finalists for the Snow Sports New Zealand 2010/11 awards, named yesterday (Tuesday).

The awards will be dished out on Saturday at a dinner hosted at The Venue in Wanaka.

Up for potential honours as Ski Racer of the Year are Queenstown-based Adam Barwood, Tim Cafe and Sarah Jarvis – while Jake Koia could grab the Snowboarder of the Year title.

Top Wakatipu-based skier Neil Williman is nominated twice in the Freeskier of the Year and Emerging Talent categories, while local cross-country skier Peter Soundy has made the cut in the Volunteer of the Year section.
