Queenstown is the perfect training location for Rugby World Cup minnows Romania, the according to the visiting squad manager.
Romanian Rugby Federation team manager Robert Antonin yesterday checked out local facilities to be used by his side when they converge on the resort from September 11-15.
Sizing up the Recreation Ground, the Frenchman says: “I think that this place is wonderful for us.”
He’s impressed with training facilities – which include Wakatipu High’s gym and pool and the Rec Ground – being so close to town and the team’s hotel, The Millennium.
“It’s exactly what I wish for between our games. Everything is perfect.”
His young Romanian side – aged between 21-24 – are scheduled to play England, Argentina, Scotland and Georgia.
While being “realistic” about results against England, Argentina and Scotland, he’s hopeful for a win against Georgia.
Antonin, who has a long history in European rugby circles, reckons the All Blacks will win this year’s World Cup.
“But I said the same thing to France when I was there last week,” he jokes.
