Queenstown ski racer shows her mettle against world-class field

Queenstown ski racer Taylor Rapley has had one of her best races of the year.

Rapley took fifth in the women’s Super G at the Australia-New Zealand Super Cup-Combined at Mt Hutt this week.

The event was won by Norway’s Lotte Smiseth Sejersted in 1:03.35. Taylor finished in 1:05.75.

“It was great to see Taylor ski well in a very competitive race,” Snow Sports New Zealand alpine manager James Lazor says.

Queenstown-based Ben Griffin showed he’s able to compete with some of the world’s best, placing third in the Super G behind three-time Olympic medalist Aksel Lund Svindal and Espen Lysdahl, both of Norway.

“Once again, today’s Super G showed what Ben is capable of,” Lazor says.

“He struggled a bit at the top of the course but obviously gathered himself and had a great race overall.”
