A Queenstown teen is in the New Zealand Ice Ferns team heading to the World Champs.
Ali Macharg, 16, has been selected for the ice hockey side which plays in the World Champs fourth division in Iceland in March.
Macharg, playing the fast-paced sport since she was 11, says her excitement boiled over when she found out last week.
“I went to Mum and jumped around the living room saying ‘I made it in’. It’s a little bit embarrassing but I was really stoked.”
Until turning 16, she wasn’t eligible for the side.
Macharg who plays for local under-16 girls team – the Midgets – says she’ll step up her training.
“I’ll be doing lots of suicide runs to get the fitness up and lots of skating,” she says.
