Queenstown bike club’s snap stars

Stunning photos capturing Queenstown’s mountain bike boom are being sold in a calendar to fund trail building and maintenance.

Queenstown Mountain Bike Club members judged hundreds of entries before announcing 12 winners last Saturday night.

The 2013 calendar, selling for $20, has an initial print run of 500 and is available in local bike shops and online.
Dunedin snapper Matthew Wood won overall club Photographer of the Year, with three photos making it to print.

Wood, 25, says: “Photography is just a hobby and mountain biking is the only thing I really take photos of.

“My favourite is the probably the one of Andy riding in Bannockburn in the autumn – that’s what we get up to on a weekend, just out and about in the middle of nowhere riding bikes.”

Downhill racer Wood won a heli-bike trip, donated by Fat Tyre Adventures.

The calendar is sponsored by 12 local businesses. It includes details of the club, which has more than 400 members and celebrates its tenth anniversary next year, and details of club riding areas such as Wynyard and 7 Mile.
