Up to 11 Queenstown bars will screen opening games of the Rugby World Cup this weekend.
Those bars are Red Rock, Pig & Whistle, Bungalow, The World, The London, Brazz, Loco Cantina, Stack’s Pub at the Hilton, Harry’s, Xtreme Sports Bar and Graze.
They’re all likely to screen at least two games this weekend - England versus Fiji, at 7am tomorrow (Saturday) and the All Blacks v Argentina at 3.45am on Monday.
The government recently passed special legislation to allow bars, hotels and clubs to screen the games outside normal licensing hours.
Venues, however, had to advise the local council and police at least seven days ahead and provide a noise management plan.
Graze was late notifying the authorities so will only be able to serve alcohol before 8am after the opening weekend.
