Queenstown windsurfer Sue Bradley is pictured on Otago Harbour last weekend on the way to winning the national slalom title for the first time.
“I really, really wanted to win it this year as I’m 50 in a couple of weeks,” says Bradley. “Next year I become a ‘master’ so I get my own special class of old farts.”
A windsurfer for 30 years, Bradley finished runner-up to Christchurch sailor Annie Crombie at the past two nationals, but this time pipped her fast-finishing opponent by 11 wins to 10 over three days.
Bradley says she reached a speed of 28kmh during a practice round.
In the men’s open, Queenstowners Ben Collins and first-timer Akihito Shimizu finished 18th and 22nd respectively.
