Mountain biker Kate Fluker’s Olympic dreams look to be in tatters after she snapped her collarbone while racing.
The Queenstown cross country star crashed out on lap three of a mud-splattered course during a World Cup race in France on Sunday.
“Obviously pretty gutting that this has happened,” she tells Mountain Scene.
“I am getting awesome advice from Kiwi doctor Kim Hurst and physio Julia Hegar, of Queenstown, on what is best to do.
“[It’s] looking like surgery ASAP either in Freiberg [Germany] or back in NZ.
“I’ll be back with a vengeance.”
New Zealand had gained the Oceania spot for Rio and national champ Fluker was a shoo-in to be picked.
But with the race just three months away, it’s highly unlikely she’ll recuperate in time.
