Wing defence Toni Monk of GRC (formerly Cutting Edge 1) and centre Sarah Russell look upcourt in their recent pre-season netball hitout against Wakatipu High’s Year 9 side.

Limbering up for this weekend’s start of the 2009 local competiton, Premier and Senior sides tested new combinations and brushed off cobwebs from the tried and trusted formulas.

On the day, Altitiude, GRC and Wakatipu High School Base, who look promising, each won all their three matches.

The season’s already off to a flying start for the new Wakatipu Netball Centre committee with confirmation of naming-rights sponsorship from Wakatipu New World for the next three years. A welcome addition to the comp is Glenorchy, who are fielding a team for the first time this year.

There’s also a handful of name changes as well, with Cutting Edge 2 becoming Lakes Environmental, Monty’s morphing into Famous Kelly’s, and Advanced Security turning into Cougar Security.
