More power to their elbows

Jimmy Carling and Reon Boe barrel down Coronet Peak in a fiercely fought Mountain Bikes on Snow competition last Sunday.

Third-placed Carling unsuccessfully made a last-ditch effort to overtake runner-up Boe in the final, straight-lining it inside his rival and causing a near tangle.

“Reon and I both said afterwards that we love close racing like that where it’s elbows out and keeping it physical,” Carling says.

Niall Renwick slid his way into first at the event, which wrapped up a weekend of mountain mayhem, part of Queenstown’s 10-day-long Winter Festival.

In the suitcase race on Saturday, Will Oswald (far right) was disqualified – possibly for running or tying a boogie-board to his luggage – but took out best dressed for his beach ensemble.
