Central Otago footballers are on a two-game winning streak at the South Island grade 13 junior soccer tournament.

They beat South Canterbury 6-4 and Marlborough 6-5 on the first day of the three-day event at the Events Centre today.

Soccer starlet Qiays Longman, 13, nailed five of the six goals in the second game, while Ryan Mawhinney nabbed another.

Central Otago coach Grant Longman is pleased with his side’s performance, but says the “crunch game” is tomorrow morning against Christchurch.

The local team also tackles North Canterbury in the afternoon before the finals on Tuesday.
