Fourteen-year-old Arrowtown golfer Laura Hoskin (right) has the gallery focused as she swings towards $100,000 at Millbrook last Saturday.
The Otago rep finished 5.1 metres from the pin at the 176m 13th in a hole-in-one competition celebrating the opening of the Arrowtown resort’s new driving range.
Laura was just centimetres further away than Cromwell’s Chris James, whose shot was best-placed among 50 qualifiers from an initial field of about 200.
Laura – a Year 9 student at Dunedin’s St Hilda’s Collegiate who this month played in the four-woman Otago team alongside her PE teacher Kathryn Fletcher – says she’d never aimed for a hole-in-one before.
Ironically, she’d have given the $100,000 on offer for a hole-in-one to charity to avoid having to turn pro too early.
